Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Red Carpet Event Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia that leaped over a barricade and touched celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
The individual, 26, was given a sentence to nine days in prison for being a public nuisance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told news outlets.
He forced his way past photographers and charged at the celebrity, who was participating in the Asian debut for the musical adaptation on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of disrupting concerts and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has mentioned dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in Manchester in several years ago killed over twenty people and hurt numerous attendees.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to jump the barricades. Protection personnel intercepted him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared videos appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "at liberty."
Police detained him the subsequent day and charged him with causing a disturbance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by Channel News Asia as stating that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was mistaken to assume he would not suffer any consequences.
The singer has not addressed the incident.
Erivo discussed the event to the press, saying that she "only aimed to make sure my colleague was protected."
"I believe he didn't mean us danger, but you never know with those things, and I aimed to ensure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she stated.
