New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD shared security footage Monday of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in March.
