The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
