The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
