The Three Lions to Start the European Championship 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, assuming they attain the anticipated passage for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

England are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, if they top Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Kickoff and Rally

The tournament was launched at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 activists, who urged the Israeli team to be expelled from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will involve the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to households and help engage a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Villa Park and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals played at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

Tournament Vision

“The event will be a tournament for the followers and a showcase of everything we value about the football – its fervor and power to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million tickets, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are projected to be offered to attendees.
