Trump Invites Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Event
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Community Support
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Policy Changes
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general told the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
