Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Will the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
